- REQUIREMENTS AND SPECIFICATIONS -

Mid-size G.M. 1978 - 1987 metric full frames only with 108” wheel base as per OEM specifications of stock. All frame bolt holes must remain in stock location. Wheel base will be checked at the Tech pad, minimum will be 107.5” Transponders are required.

WEIGHT:
Minimum weight = 2350 pounds with driver after race.

ENGINE CARBURETOR:
You may run only one carburetor on the intake. Holley two barrel model #4412 allowed on any engine. OEM GM Quadrajet on GM. OEM Motorcratf four barrel on Ford. OEM Carter or AFB four barrel on Mopar. No other carburetors are allowed. Carburetor must be stock and unaltered, with only one exception, Circle Track type floats may be used. No other alterations are allowed. Holley must have choke horn attached. Carburetor spacer / adapter is allowed. Spacer / adapter / gaskets must not exceed 1” in total thickness.  

CYLINDER HEADS/Intake:

  • A. Only OEM cylinder heads, GM #’s 997, 993, 920, 882, 862, 624, 598, 493, 487, 445, 441, 336, 126 and 185. “X” heads are not legal.

  • B. No porting, polishing, or port matching allowed. Screw in studs and guide plates are allowed. Stock spring diameter only, with a maximum of 120 lb seat pressure.

  • C. No angle mill allowed. Heads may be flat milled. Minimum of 68 cc is required.

  • E. Full roller rocker arms, or roller tip rocker arms are not allowed.

  • E. Maximum valve size: GM 1.94” intake, 1.5” exhaust. Any cast iron OEM Ford or Mopar head with valves no larger than 2.04” intake and 1.70” exhaust. Poly-locks are allowed. Stud girdles are not allowed. No vortec, bowtie, SVO, W-2 or aftermarket heads allowed.

  • F. No aluminum or titanium components allowed.

  • G. Gm & Mopar intake must be OEM cast iron with no modifications. Ford may use aluminum intake. No high-rise or marine intakes.

ENGINE: 

  • A. Maximum cubic inches = GM-365, Ford-360, Chrysler-370. OEM V-8 blocks and heads.

  • B. No bowtie, SVO, Dart or aluminum blocks. No big blocks or Hemi’s

  • C. Flat Top pistons with four (4) equal valve relieves only.

  • D. (For tech only: 12 inches of vacuum@1200 RPM and 180 PSI compression with 5 starter hits) HRP retains the option to require you to tear down at any time. If your car does not pass the vacuum/compression test you will have the option to tear down in order to pass tech.

  • E. Minimum of zero deck height is allowed

  • F. Hydraulic lift cams only. Maximum lift of.450” +/-1% (one percent). This will be measured at the valve. Maximum of eight bronze bushings in the lifter bore. Hydraulic lifters only.

  • G. Stock OEM crank for block used, stock stroke and stock type rods, and a maximum of a 5.7” rod length and 3.5” stroke for GM.

  • H. After market rod bolts/studs, main bolts/studs and head bolts/studs are allowed.

  • I. Stock or circle track claimer pan is allowed.

  • J. Fluid damper is allowed.

  • K. Cast iron intake only. No high-rise intakes, no marine intakes and no aluminum intakes (even if OEM for year, make and model came with an aluminum intake). No internal modifications of any intake permitted.

  • L. Cast iron water pumps only on GM and Mopar, Aluminum OK on Ford

  • M. Aftermarket starters allowed that bolt directly into stock location without adapters.

  • N. Power steering pump and reservoir must be a stock one-piece unit.o. Steel side engine mounts may be of the 45-degree style or stock style.

  • O. Engine mid-plate is allowed. It may be aluminum.

  • P. Any brand of air cleaner is allowed, but no style or fashion of RAM air or forced air induction is allowed.


ENGINE LOCATION:
  • A. Back of engine flange must be mounted at a minimum of 70” forward of the centerline of the rear axle. This will be measured on the passenger side of the car.

  • B. Minimum engine height is 11” from the ground to the center of the crankshaft. This will be measured on the front of the crankshaft pulley.

TRANSPONDER:
Transponder must be located no closer than 6” behind the engine rear block flange.  (This is where the motor plate/transmission bolts.)

IGNITION:

  • A. Stock or stock style ignition only.

  • B. HEI must remain in one unit, no external coils allowed. MSD or any module may be used as long as it fits inside the distributor with no alteration. Vacuum advance may be removed and the pick up coil locked.

  • C. MSD, any brand, or GM electronic boxes are not allowed.

IGNITION SWITCH:
  • A. All cars must have ignition switch clearly labeled

  • B. Ignition switch must be located within reach when standing outside the car (easily accessible to emergency personnel).

BATTERY:

  • A. Only one 12 volt battery per car is allowed

  • B. Must be securely mounted

  • C. Battery may be charged by an alternator

EXHAUST SYSTEM:
Any one and five/eights inch (1 5/8”) tube 4 into 1 with 3” collector one piece header. No 180 degree or step headers. Header must bolt directly to the head with no modifications or adapter. Please check with track rules for muffler requirements.

RADIATOR:

  • A. Only one radiator is allowed. It may be aluminum. Radiator must be mounted in front of the engine.

  • B. Racing radiator cap is allowed.

  • C. Electric cooling fans in front of radiator permitted. FUEL:No alcohol, no nitrous, no other performance enhancers allowed.

FUEL:
Unleaded gasolineGasoline only.  No additives.  No alcohol, no nitrous, no other performance enhancers allowed.

FUEL PUMP:
No electric fuel pumps.  Only stock mount push rod activated Holley and Carter style allowed.


FUEL TANK:

  • A. Maximum 22 gallon fuel cell.

  • B. Fuel cell with a roll over valve is required. Must be securely mounted inside trunk area only, must be between frame rails, and must be totally enclosed from the driver compartment. A minimum of 2 fuel cell straps 2” x 1/8” required to secure fuel cell.

  • C. Rear fuel cell protection bar required. Minimum size 1-1/2” x .095 thick. It must extent from side to side and below the cell. If this bar is not on the car you will not continue running.

DRIVE  TRAIN
TRANSMISSION:

  • A. Any OEM automatic transmission allowed. Unit must appear stock and have full working steel torque converter a minimum O.D. of 10.125. No direct drives, valve pumps, or bleeder style valve bodies. All forward and reverse gears must be in working order.

  • B. Standard transmissions must be stock, with all gears in working order, with minimum of 10” steel clutch, pressure plate, and full size steel flywheel. No mini-clutches or direct drives. Standard may not use aluminum flywheel.

  • C. All standards must have bell housing made of 1/2” thick steel and cover 180 degrees over the sides and top of the clutch assembly.

  • D. No 2, 5 or 6-speed manual transmissions, no overdrives, or overdrive units. No Bert or Brinn style transmissions allowed.

  • E. No ram coupler.

  • F. Quick-change transmissions or transmission adapters for gear change are not allowed.

  • G. Car must be self starting and have working neutral, reverse, and forward.

  • H. Transmission fluid coolers are allowed.

DRIVESHAFT:
Driveshafts must be steel and must painted white or silver.  Must have a steel driveshaft loop (360 degree) connected to the frame located within 6” of the front drive shaft u-joint.  Minimum size is 2” x 1/4” or a minimum of 1” O.D.  tubing.  No chain loops allowed as front loops.

REAREND:

  • A. Rear end must be 7.5” GM 10 bolt with stock width After market axles, studs, and mini-spools are allowed. No posi-trac, limited slip style rear ends. Rear end axles must be locked together at all times.

  • B. A method to restrict the axles from coming out is mandatory. C-clip eliminators or Disc- brakes Permitted.

  • C. Any gear ratio may be used, if no alteration to housing is required.

  • D. Bolt pattern on the axle / drums may be changed. Pinion angle may not be altered at all.


BRAKES AND SUSPENSION
BRAKES:

  • A. Single or dual master cylinder aftermarket brake pedal is allowed. Pedal adjuster is allowed within drivers reach.

  • B. Rear Disc brakes maximum of 12” steel hats and rotors. No single phase rotors allowed.

  • C. A proportioning valve may be used, and may be installed within the drivers reach.

  • D. Minimum of three (3) working brakes is required. If using three brakes, the fourth brake components need not be present. Spindle must remain unaltered.

  • E. Cooling holes may not be drilled in any brake components.

  • F. No aluminum brake components allowed.

STEERING:

  • A. Quick release steering wheel is mandatory.

  • B. Quick steer is optional. No chains or sprockets allowed in the steering system.

  • C. Steering left of drive train only.

  • D. Bump steer cannot be adjusted. Center link, inner tie-rods, outer tie rods, or sleeves can not be altered.

  • E. Power steering is allowed. After market power steering pump may not be used.

  • F. Steering pump and reservoir must remain one unit.

  • G. No rack and pinion steerin
  • G. Stock OEM steering gear box must be used.

SUSPENSION:

  • A. Front upper control arm brackets may be moved for caster and camber adjustment.

  • B. Must use stock upper control arms and brackets.

  • C. Upper and lower control arms bushings may be after market.

  • D. Sway bars and brackets must remain stock. Bushings may be after market.

  • E. Racing springs are allowed. Steel only. No coil-overs. No jack bolts allowed. Adjustable spring buckets are allowed.

  • F. Spindles and rotors must remain stock. Ball joints must remain stock appearing, size and length. No grinding or lightened parts.

  • G. No drilling cooling holes in rotor. 5/8” studs are allowed in any bolt pattern.

  • H. Rear trailing arms must remain stock for frame used and in stock location. Must remain stock length. Must not compress or lengthen. Arms may be boxed or strengthened. After market OEM style bushings may be used. No spherical, ball bearing or Timken bearings as any part of the cars suspension. Each trailing arm must have all bushings installed and in good working order.

  • I. No suspension parts may be altered or lightened.

  • J. No aluminum parts allowed, other than bushings.

SHOCKS:

  • A. Shocks must be steel. Must use stock type shock ends.

  • B. The stock shock frame mounts must be used in the original stock location.

  • C. One shock per wheel.

FRAME:

  • A. Frame can not be cut, bent, or altered to change suspension brackets.

  • B. Front frame horns can be cut off in front of the steering box/idler arm

  • C. Rear frame rails may be cut off behind upper shock mounts.

  • D. Replacement may be made with round, square, or rectangular tubing.


ROLL CAGE:

  • A. Main roll cage must consist of continuous hoops not less than 1-1/2” x.095”. All welds must be complete. No brazing or soldering. No part of main cage may extend past rear motor plate to the front. The main roll bar must not attach to the frame past the front edge of the rear tire.

  • B. Main roll bar and halo must be a minimum of 1” above the driver’s helmet.

  • C. A minimum of three (3) driver side door bars, and two (2) passenger side door bars is required. Two (2) bars, one per side, may extend from the main roll cage to points on the main frame in front of the upper control arms. These bars may have two additional braces per side to the main frame.

  • E. Four (4) bars may extend from the main cage to rear, two to the main frame and two to the upper shock mount area. In addition, X-bracing is allowed.

NERF BARS:
One single bar nerf bar between the front and rear wheels, on each side of the car is allowed.  Maximum size = 1-1/2” x.095”.  They are to be attached to the cage at the front and rear sections of the nerf bar.  No center supports are allowed on the nerf bar.

WINDSHIELD BARS:
Minimum of three (3) vertical windshield bars 5/16” in diameter is required.  Must be mounted in front of driver.

TIRES AND WHEELS
TIRES:

  • A. Any brand DOT radial allowed. Allowable sizes are 235/60, 245/60, 255/60 and 275/60 Hoosier 500 are permitted.

  • B. Any tire designed or intended for racing is not permitted.

WHEELS:

  • A. Only steel 15” x 8” or steel 14” x 8” wheels are allowe
  • D. Right Rear bead lock allowed No wheel spacers allowed with stock studs. Any offset wheel allowe
  • D. 5/8” studs are allowe
  • D. Wheel spacers may be aluminum.

  • B. One inch diameter lug nuts are required.

  • C. Wheel adapters will be treated as spacers and may be aluminum.

INTERIOR:
Oil and transmission fluid coolers are not allowed in the driver’s compartment.

UPHOLSTERY:

  • A. No upholstery allowed, other than drivers seat cover.

  • B. No plastic is allowed in driver’s cockpit.

  • B. Roof rear sail panels are allowed one 90 degree bend along the top edge of the sail panel, but must be less than 1” wide.

  • C. No more than 6” of total rake allowed on the body deck. A maximum of 3” of rake (1/2 of the 6” total) is allowed in the door section and a maximum of 3” of rake is allowed in the quarter panel section. If you keep the door section level, then you are allowed only 3” of rake in the quarter panel section.

  • D. Minimum ride height is 6” from ground to body or frame rails.

  • E. Plastic body panels, and plastic filler panels are not allowed

  • F. The deck and the top of the door and quarter panels must be the same height.

FENDERS:
Quarter panels must be 90 degrees to the ground, with a maximum of a 45 degree bend 4” from the bottom of the doors and quarters.

FIREWALL:
Must be metal, with minimum sized holes, for throttle, etc.  Firewall must be sealed from engine compartment. 

FLOOR:
Must be metal.  Must cover the entire driver’s cockpit.

BUMPERS:

  • A. Two (2) bar front bumper is mandatory. Minimum size = 1 1/4” x.095” and maximum size = 1 1/2” x.095”.

  • B. One single bar rear bumper is required. Maximum size = 1-3/4”. The required fuel cell protection bar (maximum size = 1-1/2” x.095) may be attached to the rear bumper.

HOOD:

  • A. Must cover completely the engine and radiator.

  • B. Must extend from the nose piece to the deck.

  • C. Hood may be made of metal or fiberglass.

  • D. Hood must sit flat and provide a seal to the top of the engine compartment.

SPOILER:
Rear spoiler is allowed, with a maximum use of material of 8”, measured along the spoiler, from the deck to the top, not straight up and down.  A maximum of four braces are allowed, one on each side, measuring a maximum of the angled height of the spoiler x 12” long, and must be in a triangle configuration.  Only metal spoilers are allowed.  Only one spoiler is allowed.  The top of the spoiler may not be over 5” above deck.

DRIVER RESTRAINT SYSTEM
SEAT:

Aluminum racing seats with right side rib protection is required.  A seat that provides both left and right side rib protection is recommended.  Seat must be securely mounted.  The racing seat, must be bolted to a reinforced cross member and bracket(s).  This cross member must be welded to the roll cage, not just the floorboard.  The back of the seat must be supported and bolted to a flange that is connected by weld to the cage.

SEAT BELTS:

  • A. Racing type 5 point seatbelts are mandatory. Must be approved 3” wide shoulder straps and a minimum of one 2” sub strap. All belt systems must be securely attached to the roll cage, or seat cross-member and not to the floorboard.

  • B. Seat belt dates must be current up to a maximum of FIVE (5) years old and in good shape. If the date is not visible the belts are not approved.

WINDOW NET/ARM RESTRAINTS:

  • A. Window nets or arm restraints are mandatory. Nets may be the mesh or web style Sprint car nets are allowed.

  • B. A quick release window net system must be used.

HELMET:
Approved Racing helmets only, full face Snell SA 90 or newer.  It must have Snell SA90, SA95 or SA00 sticker clearly visible in the helmet.  If the Snell rating decal is not visible, then the helmet is not approved for racing at HRP.  No DOT only helmets. 

PROTECTIVE CLOTHING:

  • A. Driver suit {Fire Suit} mandatory, may be one {1} piece or two {2} piece, must be complete and be of fire resistant material and in good safe condition.

  • B. You must wear the complete uniform and helmet, anytime the car is on the race track, due to insurance regulations.

  • C. Driving gloves and shoes are recommended.
CLAIM:
Only registered drivers may make an engine claim.
  • A. A “$500.00 AND SWAP” engine claim (or $200 protest) is in effect.

  • B. This claim includes intake (not adapter / spacer) to the oil pan, from the back of the block (not flywheel or distributor) to the water pump (not pulleys, belts, power steering unit, fan, or fuel pump), from head to head (not valve covers, headers, starter, oil pan, spark plug wires, or spark plugs).

  • C. The official claiming area is under the flag stand. Only the top two drivers may be claimed.

  • D. Claim must be made in the claiming area immediately after the A-main race finishes, (checkered flag). Both engines must be completely removed within one (1) hour from the time claim is made and driver agrees to sell.

  • E. Only the driver may make the claim. Driver must present money (cash only!), claim form completed (may not be completed in claim area), and current registration card or receipt in hand and must make claim before leaving racing surface for the asphalted pit area. NO EXCEPTIONS or DEVIATIONS to this rule.

  • F. The claiming driver must be on the same lap as the driver being claimed.

  • G. The driver being claimed has the option to take the $200 protest and be torn down. The driver doing the claiming cannot back out if the driver being claimed takes the protest option. The driver doing the claiming will get $300 back and must follow through with protest. If legal, claimed driver will receive $150 with $50 going to the driver’s point’s fund If found illegal, driver making claim will receive $150 back with $50 going to the driver’s points fund Tear down consists of crank, rods, pistons and heads.

  • H. On opening night of racing of the season, all drivers are eligible to claim and be claimed During the remainder of the season, the driver making the claim must have raced at this race track the previous night of racing.

  • I. Any driver registered or not, may be claimed at any time.

  • J. Drivers may only claim two engines per race season.

  • K. A driver may claim another driver’s engine only once during the race season.

  • L. In case of multiple claims on the same engine, the claimed engine will go to the qualified driver finishing furthest back on the lead lap.

  • M. Refusal to sell forfeits all cash, trophies and points for that race event. If claim is refused, claim is not held against the claiming driver.

  • N. Driver refusing to sell his engine once is fined $200.00. Driver refusing to sell his engine a second time in a season is fined $400.00 and is suspended from HRP for one week, car and driver. Driver refusing to sell his engine a third time is fined $600.00 and will lose all points and/or contingency awards for the season and will be suspended from HRP for 3 weeks, car and driver. Driver refusing to sell his engine a fourth time will be suspended for the remainder of the season, and will not be allowed back until a $1,000 fine is paid for car and driver. All fines must be paid before car and driver are eligible to race.

  • O. Any sabotage discovered in removal of a claimed / exchanged engine will result in termination for 12 months. Drivers are held accountable for actions of crews during engine removal. The claim will be disallowed and money returned to the claimer in the event of sabotage.
